90 Day Challenge- Day Three- Genesis 28:20- Genesis 40:11
Genesis 31:3 Then the Lord said to Jacob, Return to the land of your fathers and to your people, and I will be with you.
This verse is part of the story of Jacob. As you may remember, Jacob was a little bit of a sneaky guy. He talked his brother into trading his birthright for a bowl of stew, then later tricked his father into giving him his brother’s blessing. Since his brother Esau then wanted to kill him, he left and went to another land to live with his uncle. There he fell in love with his uncle’s daughter, served faithfully for seven years in order to marry her, got tricked by the uncle and married the older sister instead, then had to work another seven years to marry the one he really loved. (Who needs soap opera’s when you can read the Bible!) He continued to work for his uncle, all the while amassing his own herds of cattle and sheep. When his possessions started becoming greater than his uncle’s, it was time for him to leave. The Lord spoke to him and told him to go back to the land where he was from, back to where his brother lived. How daunting would that be? The Lord says go back to where you are a wanted man, go back to where your closest relative wants to kill you. If it was me, I probably would have been a little afraid. I probably would have questioned whether that was really the right thing to do.
I love what the end of this verse says though- and I will be with you. God told Jacob to do something that wasn’t going to necessarily be easy, but He also told him that He would be with him in the midst of it all. Have you ever been in that place where you felt God leading you in a certain direction but it’s a bit overwhelming, a bit difficult, may be even impossible? Has your mind tried to comprehend the what if’s and the ramifications, and the potential problems if you are obedient? In Deuteronomy 31:6, Moses is getting ready to send Joshua into the promised land with the people, he says these words- 6Be strong, courageous, and firm; fear not nor be in terror before them, for it is the Lord your God Who goes with you; He will not fail you or forsake you.
Today I say those same words to you- He will be with you in every situation, every circumstance of your life. In the good and in the not so good, He will be with you; and if He is with you don’t need to worry or fear. Be strong and courageous, because if He is with you, He will never leave you, He will never forsake you, and He will never fail you.
