Psalm 30:5 … Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.
Yesterday we awoke to the fact that joy comes from the Lord. Today we are going to awake to how we can obtain it. It’s very simple. We don’t have to obtain the joy of the Lord, because it is freely given to us the minute we are saved. In John 10:9-10 Jesus says 9 I am the Door; anyone who enters in through Me will be saved (will live). He will come in and he will go out [freely], and will find pasture. 10The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it [overflows). Jesus gave His life for us that we would not only find eternal life, but a more abundant life (which includes having the joy of the Lord) We just have to recognize that it is there and waiting for us. And after we come to that realization, we have to receive it.
I have an orange tree right outside my front door. In fact is has tons of oranges on it. What if you came to my house one day and I said, “boy I really wish I had an orange. An orange sure would taste good right now”. You might ask, “Isn’t that your orange tree right by the front door?” If I said, “Yes it is, but I just wish I had an orange.” You would probably think I was crazy. Why? Because I have a whole tree of them, I just need to go get one.
Each of us, as believers, has a whole tree full fruit at our disposal- love, joy, peace, etc….. (See Galations 5:22-23) That’s just one of the benefits of salvation. Why then do we think we need to GET joy, or peace, or love? We already HAVE it, we just have to realize what belongs to us through Christ.
