John 14:27 Peace I leave with you; My [own] peace I now give and bequeath to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. [Stop allowing yourselves to be agitated and disturbed; and do not permit yourselves to be fearful and intimidated and cowardly and unsettled.]
Jesus was talking with His disciples when He made this powerful statement. My own peace I now give and bequeath to you. How many of you know that the peace Jesus possessed kept Him calm and unruffled whether he was walking on water in the midst of the storm, facing accusers full of hatred and desire to kill Him, and even as He hung up on a cross and took His last breath. How many of you wish you possessed that same peace? Guess what? You do! There is nothing that you might face that is bigger than the peace of God that you have been given. Once we understand that we possess this peace, we can then allow it to guard and guide us. Jesus said Do not let your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. We have to make a conscious choice to not allow fear and anxiety to have a place in our minds and hearts.
I love Philippians 4:6-8 6Do not fret or have any anxiety about anything, but in every circumstance and in everything, by prayer and petition (definite requests), with thanksgiving, continue to make your wants known to God. 7And God’s peace [shall be yours….that peace] which transcends all understanding shall garrison and mount guard over your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. 8For the rest, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is worthy of reverence and is honorable and seemly, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely and lovable, whatever is kind and winsome and gracious, if there is any virtue and excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think on and weigh and take account of these things [fix your minds on them].
Once we make our requests known to God, His peace which gives us calm that doesn’t even make sense, will then guard our hearts and minds. We just have to do our part and fix our minds on the truth of the Word of God. What have you been worried about? Take a minute to cast your care on the Lord, and allow His peace to cover you.
