Thanks For the Victory!
1 Corinthians 15:57-58 57But thanks be to God, Who gives us the victory [making us conquerors] through our Lord Jesus Christ. 58Therefore, my beloved brethren, be firm (steadfast), immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord [always being superior, excelling, doing more than enough in the service of the Lord], knowing and being continually aware that your labor in the Lord is not futile [it is never wasted or to no purpose].
Today’s passage gives us yet another reason to thank the Lord. He gives us the victory, making us more than conquerors in any situation we are in. 2 Corinthians 2:14 says 14But thanks be to God, Who in Christ always leads us in triumph [as trophies of Christ’s victory] and through us spreads and makes evident the fragrance of the knowledge of God everywhere. We see here that our triumphs reflect the triumph of Jesus. He never failed an neither can we. In Romans 8:36-37 we see 36Even as it is written, For Thy sake we are put to death all the day long; we are regarded and counted as sheep for the slaughter. 37Yet amid all these things we are more than conquerors and gain a surpassing victory through Him Who loved us. Not only do we win, we gain a surpassing victory! The best part is it’s a victory we don’t even have to fight to win, because He fights it for us. In John 16:32-33 Jesus says 32But take notice, the hour is coming, and it has arrived, when you will all be dispersed and scattered, every man to his own home, leaving Me alone. Yet I am not alone, because the Father is with Me. 33I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have [perfect] peace and confidence. In the world you have tribulation and trials and distress and frustration; but be of good cheer [take courage; be confident, certain, undaunted]! For I have overcome the world. [I have deprived it of power to harm you and have conquered it for you.] We don’t need to be distressed, frustrated, or worried, there is nothing that can harm us.
This is why in John 14:27 Jesus could say with all certainty 27Peace I leave with you; My [own] peace I now give and bequeath to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. [Stop allowing yourselves to be agitated and disturbed; and do not permit yourselves to be fearful and intimidated and cowardly and unsettled.] We can remain in a state of calm and serenity, free from anxiety, knowing that we will overcome anything that comes our way. What a reason to give thanks! Thank God that no weapon formed against you can prosper, that you are victorious, that no circumstance can rob you of your peace and that He enables you to win every battle!
