Serving the Lord With Gladness

Serving the Lord with gladnss

1 John 5:1-3 1EVERYONE WHO believes (adheres to, trusts, and relies on the fact) that Jesus is the Christ (the Messiah) is a born-again child of God; and everyone who loves the Father also loves the one born of Him (His offspring).  2By this we come to know (recognize and understand) that we love the children of God: when we love God and obey His commands (orders, charges)–[when we keep His ordinances and are mindful of His precepts and His teaching].   3For the [true] love of God is this: that we do His commands [keep His ordinances and are mindful of His precepts and teaching]. And these orders of His are not irksome (burdensome, oppressive, or grievous).

We’ve seen this before, but let’s look at it again. If we say we love God we need to show it by our actions. When we keep His commandments, we show that we truly love Him. Look at the last part of this verse- And these orders are not irksome, burdensome, oppressive or grievous. In other wards we need to not only be doers of the Word, but we need to obey with a good attitude. In Joshua 22:5 Joshua instructs the children of Israel- 5But take diligent heed to do the commandment and the law which Moses the servant of the Lord charged you: to love the Lord your God and to walk in all His ways and to keep His commandments and to cling to and unite with Him and to serve Him with all your heart and soul [your very life]. This instruction is for us as well. Serve the Lord with all of our hearts and all of our souls (our very life). I think of what it says in Psalm 100:2 Serve the Lord with gladness! Obeying the Lord should be something we do with joy.

Serving the Lord and obeying His word results in us being in the center of His will. When we are in His will, we will be blessed in our lives. Deuteronomy 28:1-2 says 1And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the LORD thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth:  2And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God.  If we read the remainder of the chapter we will see not only all of the blessings listed, but also what will befall us if we don’t obey. In addition to receiving the blessings of God, obeying Him puts us in position to avoid the pitfalls, and traps of the enemy and ultimately leads to us enjoying life to the greatest capacity.
