Perfect love casts out all fear
1 John 4:18-21 18There is no fear in love [dread does not exist], but full-grown (complete, perfect) love turns fear out of doors and expels every trace of terror! For fear brings with it the thought of punishment, and [so] he who is afraid has not reached the full maturity of love [is not yet grown into love’s complete perfection]. 19We love Him, because He first loved us. 20If anyone says, I love God, and hates (detests, abominates) his brother [in Christ], he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, Whom he has not seen. 21And this command (charge, order, injunction) we have from Him: that he who loves God shall love his brother [believer] also.
We know from the scriptures that God is love, so if He is in us fear cannot stay in us. Perfect love casts out fear. Fear is such an overwhelming weapon of the enemy to stop people from their destiny. Fear has the capability to sidetrack believers and non-believers alike. How many people will never reach their full potential because fear stopped them from even trying? How many people are so anxious, worried and frightened that they spend the majority of their time trying to figure out how to get through life rather than embracing and enjoying it?
When fear comes, we have to put our trust completely upon the Lord. David says in Psalms 56:3-4 3What time I am afraid, I will have confidence in and put my trust and reliance in You. 4By [the help of] God I will praise His word; on God I lean, rely, and confidently put my trust; I will not fear. What can man, who is flesh, do to me? If we have a true revelation of God on the inside of us, we will not give into fear when it shows up. We will know that He is greater than anything else and we will not allow fear to override our belief. 2 Timothy 2:7 says 7For God did not give us a spirit of timidity (of cowardice, of craven and cringing and fawning fear), but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of calm and well-balanced mind and discipline and self-control. The next time fear tries to tell you that you can’t do something, tell it you have power in you that can do all things. When fear tries to get you worked up and worried, stop for a minute and remember that God has given you a calm, well-balanced mind. When fear tries to make you believe your situation is bigger than you, know that God didn’t put a spirit of timidity in you, He created you to triumph in ALL things. Don’t allow anything to stop you today, trust in God and let His perfect love cast away every trace of fear!
