1 John 4:12-17 12No man has at any time [yet] seen God. But if we love one another, God abides (lives and remains) in us and His love (that love which is essentially His) is brought to completion (to its full maturity, runs its full course, is perfected) in us! 13By this we come to know (perceive, recognize, and understand) that we abide (live and remain) in Him and He in us: because He has given (imparted) to us of His [Holy] Spirit. 14And [besides] we ourselves have seen (have deliberately and steadfastly contemplated) and bear witness that the Father has sent the Son [as the] Savior of the world. 15Anyone who confesses (acknowledges, owns) that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides (lives, makes His home) in him and he [abides, lives, makes his home] in God. 16And we know (understand, recognize, are conscious of, by observation and by experience) and believe (adhere to and put faith in and rely on) the love God cherishes for us. God is love, and he who dwells and continues in love dwells and continues in God, and God dwells and continues in him. 17In this [union and communion with Him] love is brought to completion and attains perfection with us, that we may have confidence for the day of judgment [with assurance and boldness to face Him], because as He is, so are we in this world.
Do we ever take for granted the gift of salvation? Sometimes it’s good to take a minute to reflect on the amazing way God loves us. Verse 15 says Anyone who confesses (acknowledges, owns) that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides (lives, makes His home) in him and he [abides, lives, makes his home] in God. The first thing to see here is the word ANYONE. No matter what you’ve done, no matter what you’ve been through, no matter how you’ve lived your life, once you acknowledge the lordship of Jesus Christ you abide in Him and He abides in you. That means He lives in you and endures with you throughout the rest of your life. No one is perfect, and each of us makes mistakes daily. Romans 3:23-24 says 23Since all have sinned and are falling short of the honor and glory ]which God bestows and receives. 24[All] are justified and made upright and in right standing with God, freely and gratuitously by His grace (His unmerited favor and mercy), through the redemption which is [provided] in Christ Jesus, Isn’t it good to know that on your own you can never be good enough? Through His grace however, you are made upright and righteous in God’s sight. Romans 10:9-10 tells us 9Because if you acknowledge and confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and in your heart believe (adhere to, trust in, and rely on the truth) that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10For with the heart a person believes (adheres to, trusts in, and relies on Christ) and so is justified (declared righteous, acceptable to God), and with the mouth he confesses (declares openly and speaks out freely his faith) and confirms [his] salvation. Once we believe in Him, and confess with our mouths, we become part of the family of God. It’s that easy. We can then go into His presence with boldness and confidence knowing that we are righteous and holy in His sight. Take a moment today to thank Him for His eternal salvation, for your position as His son or daughter, and for His everlasting love and forgiveness that never ceases.
