Exercising Virtue Develops Knowledge

2 Peter 1:5-8 5For this very reason, adding your diligence [to the divine promises], employ every effort in exercising your faith to develop virtue (excellence, resolution, Christian energy), and in [exercising] virtue [develop] knowledge (intelligence),    6And in [exercising] knowledge [develop] self-control, and in [exercising] self-control [develop] steadfastness (patience, endurance), and in [exercising] steadfastness [develop] godliness (piety),    7And in [exercising] godliness [develop] brotherly affection, and in [exercising] brotherly affection [develop] Christian love.   8For as these qualities are yours and increasingly abound in you, they will keep [you] from being idle or unfruitful unto the [full personal] knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One).

As we exercise virtue, or moral goodness and righteousness, in our lives that leads to knowledge. I think of Solomon. He was able to ask God for anything he desired. He could have asked for money, power, fame, or glory, but look what he requests in 2 Chronicles 1:10-12 10Give me now wisdom and knowledge to go out and come in before this people, for who can rule this Your people who are so great?  11God replied to Solomon, Because this was in your heart and you have not asked for riches, possessions, honor, and glory, or the life of your foes, or even for long life, but have asked wisdom and knowledge for yourself, that you may rule and judge My people over whom I have made you king,  12Wisdom and knowledge are granted you. And I will give you riches, possessions, honor, and glory, such as none of the kings had before you, and none after you shall have their equal.  Because he asked for wisdom and knowledge God granted him abundantly beyond what he could have dreamed. Knowledge is the most powerful thing we can have.

If we have knowledge based upon the Word we can walk through any trial, defeat any enemy, and overcome any obstacle that may be in our way. Think about this- You are believing God for healing in your body, but you get a bad report from the doctor. You know that Acts 10:38 says 38How God anointed and consecrated Jesus of Nazareth with the [Holy] Spirit and with strength and ability and power; how He went about doing good and, in particular, curing all who were harassed and oppressed by [the power of] the devil, for God was with Him. You also know Mark 16:17-18 says 17And these attesting signs will accompany those who believe: in My name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new languages;  18They will pick up serpents; and [even] if they drink anything deadly, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will get well. If you know what the Word says and you believe it to be true, no matter what the doctor tells you, you will stand on what Jesus says. Your finances may be looking a little shaky, but you know what it says in Philippians 4:19 19And my God will liberally supply (fill to the full) your every need according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus. Instead of freaking out about the economy, you will have peace knowing all your needs are met. When you have knowledge of the goodness of God, you know he will always come through for you.
