Psalm 37:3-7 3Trust (lean on, rely on, and be confident) in the Lord and do good; so shall you dwell in the land and feed surely on His faithfulness, and truly you shall be fed. 4Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He will give you the desires and secret petitions of your heart. 5Commit your way to the Lord [roll and repose each care of your load on Him]; trust (lean on, rely on, and be confident) also in Him and He will bring it to pass. 6And He will make your uprightness and right standing with God go forth as the light, and your justice and right as [the shining sun of] the noonday. 7Be still and rest in the Lord; wait for Him and patiently lean yourself upon Him
Have you ever looked at your life, and wondered why you may not have everything you desire? Today’s passage gives us a very important key to seeing the things you want to see in your life. Verse 4 says 4Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He will give you the desires and secret petitions of your heart. Maybe we aren’t seeing our desires come to pass because we are not delighting in Him. What does it mean to delight in something? It means to gain great enjoyment and pleasure from someone or something. Are you finding joy in the presence of the Lord? Are you receiving pleasure from simply spending time with Him? In Psalms 16:11 David tells us 11You will show me the path of life; in Your presence is fullness of joy, at Your right hand there are pleasures forevermore. If in His presence is fullness of joy, then it stands to reason that if we just spend time with Him we will find joy from being with Him.
The more we spend time in His presence, the more we will find that the desires of our heart will become what His desires are for us. So often we have our own desires, our own plans, our own thoughts, our own ideas of what we want from life. However, what if our desires aren’t what He wants for us? We have to always remember that as it says in Jeremiah 29:11 11For I know the thoughts and plans that I have for you, says the Lord, thoughts and plans for welfare and peace and not for evil, to give you hope in your final outcome. He also says in Isaiah 55:8 8For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways, says the Lord. God’s smallest plans for us are far greater than even the biggest plans we have for ourselves. If we are not seeing what we desire, maybe it’s because He has a better plan, a better purpose and a better outcome for us. If we will take the time to begin delighting in Him, we will be able to see more clearly what His direction is for us, and once we see what He desires for us, then that will become what we desire.
I encourage you to take time today to delight in the Lord. Sing a new song to Him with your mouth. Praise Him from your heart. Regardless of what you are going through ask Him today to restore unto you the joy of your salvation! Enjoy just being in His presence!
